Safari Itinerary:

Day 1: Nalemoru Gate - Simba Camp

Today, we embark on our Kilimanjaro journey by driving to Nalemoru Gate. The first stage of our trek takes us through lush forests and farmland, offering a unique perspective of the mountain. As we ascend, we may catch a glimpse of the beautiful Colobus monkeys or elephants roaming the area. Our destination for the day is Simba Camp, located at an elevation of 6,398 ft. The journey is approximately 8 km, and the hike is expected to take 4-6 hours.

Day 2: Simba Camp - Second Cave Camp.

We start our second day with a steady ascent through the heath zone, taking us to the Second Cave Camp located at an elevation of 11,417 ft. The trail offers breathtaking views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim. We will take a break at the Second Cave Camp for a hot lunch before continuing our hike to Third Cave Camp in the afternoon. This hike is approximately 5 km and will take us 6-8 hours. We will use the evening to acclimatize and prepare for the next day's climb.

Day 3: Second Cave Camp - Third Cave Camp

Today, we will continue our ascent towards the Third Cave Camp, which is located at an elevation of 12,700 ft. The trail takes us through the heath zone and offers breathtaking views of Kibo and Mawenzi. We will start the day with a gentle slope towards the camp, which will take us approximately 3-4 hours. This hike will help us acclimatize further as we prepare for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Day 4: Third Cave Camp - Kibo Camp

Today, we will make our final ascent towards the summit of Kilimanjaro. We will start the day with an early breakfast and depart from Third Cave Camp. The trail takes us through the alpine desert, which is a stark contrast to the lush forests we have traversed so far. We will cross the lunar desert of the 'saddle' between Mawenzi and Kibo. It will take us approximately 5-6 hours to reach Kibo Camp, which is located at an elevation of 15,430 ft. The camp offers stunning views of the summit of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape. We will have the remainder of the day to rest and prepare for the final ascent, which begins early the next morning.

Day 5: Kibo Camp - Uhuru Peak - Horombo Camp

This is the final day of our climb and we're all excited for the summit attempt. We'll start the ascent around midnight and the trail will take us through the rocky terrain and ice fields. It's a long and strenuous journey, but we're prepared for it. After several hours of climbing, we'll reach the Hans Meyer Cave at an elevation of 5,220 meters. From there, the climb gets more challenging as we ascend towards the crater rim of Kilimanjaro.
Finally, after a grueling climb, we'll reach Uhuru Peak at an elevation of 5,895 meters. The sun will start to warm up the land and we'll have a chance to take in the breathtaking views.
After spending some time at the summit, we'll begin our descent back to Kibo Hut. A warm meal and a well-deserved break await us before we continue our journey back to Horombo Hut. It's going to be a long day, but we're all determined to reach our destination.

Day 6: Horombo Camp – Marangu Gate

Distance: 20km/12 miles.
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours.
Elevation: From 12,205 ft to 6,046 ft.
Habitat: Rain Forest.
On the final day, the trek goes through the heath and moor zone to Mandara Hut (2700m) for a warm lunch. Then, back through the tropical rainforest, the total trekking time is 6 hours. Finally, you'll reach Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). Say goodbye to your guides and transfer back to your Moshi hotel. Take a warm shower and celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro summit!
