Machame Route: Taking over Marangu, Machame route is now the most famous and better suited for adventurous people and those with hiking experience. Minimum days required for this route is 6 days though seven can be recommended. For those interested in a scenic view and hiking challenge Machame is the best combination.
Tour Itinerary:
DAY ONE: Arusha to Machame Camp.
We depart Arusha to Kilimanjaro National Park, complete all the required formalities before we begin our trek through the beautiful thick forest that clothes the lower reaches of Kilimanjaro. Hiking for 5 to 6 hours you will spot wildlife such as the blue colobus monkey and variety of bird species along the way. Machame Camp (3,000 meters), is where you will end your day. Your porters and cook will be waiting for you, for a hot bath and meals to reenergize you for the next day.
DAY TWO: Machame Camp to Shira Camp.
Today you will be up bright and early, though it’s a shorter day of climbing. The rainy forest gives way to open moorlands on this day, thereby making a completely different climbing adventure. Around midafternoon you will arrive at Shira Camp, providing you with enough time to chillax and absorb in the beautiful view of Kibo Glacier.
DAY THREE: Shira Camp - lava tower - Barranco Camp.
A 300 feet volcanic rock formation will be your first intimidating challenge for the day, you will begin this unique milestone immediately after your done with breakfast. After your done with this challenging landmark you will slowly descend to Barranco camp 4,500 meters above sea level. Considered by many as the most beautiful camp in Kilimanjaro, Barranco camp will be your base for the night.
DAY FOUR: Barranco – Barafu (ice) Camp.
Today will be your 1st real taste of mountain climbing, as you challenge yourself to a bit of old-school rock climbing through Barranco wall. After this fearless challenge you will carry on towards the great Karanga Valley, where you will rest and stop for Lunch. Barafu Camp will be excited see you after a tasty meal and a 2 to 3-hour hike. You will be served with a delicious and mountain like meal and plenty of water before turning in for the evening as you will be summiting tomorrow.
DAY FIVE: Barafu Camp – Uhuru peak – Mweka Camp
Just after midnight our professional guides will wake you up with a cup of tea and a light meal for energy as you dress and get ready for the adventure ahead. You will be hiking in pitch darkness for 5 to six hours, so take it easy and you will make it to Stella point a few hours before sunrise. From here, there will be additional two hours of extreme hiking before you achieve your ultimate objective: Uhuru Peak. Standing at 5985 meters you will be able to experience an amazing sunrise and absorb in a spectacular panoramic view. Congratulation you have made it to the roof of Africa. You will now begin your walk down to Barafu Camp after snapping beautiful shots, where you will stop for lunch and celebration. And after a beautiful and well-earned rest you will continue down to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight.
DAY SIX: Mweka Camp – Arusha
Today is a day of fun, joy and extreme celebration as you will enjoy your final meal on the mountain before you climb down to Mweka Gate While at Mweka Gate you will again celebrate with your Guides, Potters, and the Cook for the well-deserved climb. Tips are recommended as well. Your driver will then drive you to your accommodation in either Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
